Are you looking for a career that takes you to the limit of your potential — and maybe even beyond? An Adventure Sports degree is your ticket to a heart-pumping world of opportunities in the great outdoors.
This is the course for energetic, passionate people who seek out new experiences and leap into whatever life throws at them. Along the way you’ll push the boundaries and achieve things you never thought were possible thanks to our supportive teaching team.
Adventure Sports are for people who have a passion and love for the outdoor environment. You’ll build up an in-depth understanding of applied performance philosophy and psychology. After all, you can’t master the body without first mastering the mind! At UCR, we’ll give you the practical and theoretical knowledge to pursue your own adventure – and share your skills and experiences with others who’d like to follow in your footsteps.
Our specialist team of qualified instructors will support you when rock climbing, kayaking, canoeing, mountaineering, mountain biking and sailing. You’ll get a mix of academic learning, outdoor activities, optional study tours and National Governing Body Coaching Awards, as well as work placements to help you get career ready.
Our stunning campus is packed with elite performance resources. You’ll experiment with how training far above sea level effects the human body in the bespoke altitude chamber.
We’re in easy reach of some of the UK’s most exciting locations for adventure sports enthusiasts, including Cannock Chase, the Lake District, the Peak District and North Wales. We have also offered opportunities for extended sailing voyages, overseas ski trips and winter training in the Scottish Highlands.
So what are you waiting for?
Rhys Jones | FdSc Adventure Sports and Coaching
“The best things about this degree are the people you meet and the adventures you go on. You have so many opportunities for in depth learning and gaining industry wide skills, and you can gain National Governing Bodies’ coaching qualifications. The whole package confirms that you are serious about a career in the industry and makes it much easier to get a job.
I’m already working as an outdoor sports instructor but the short term dream is to do a ski instructor‘s qualification in Canada, then teach skiing in the winter and paddling, climbing and mountain biking in the summer. I’d have a great work balance and the opportunity to travel all over the world!”
