“Throughout my six years at Reaseheath I was encouraged to develop my own ideas and further my knowledge, and I also began work at the dairy farm where I am now a manager.”

“Although I have a non-farming background, I’m passionate about dairy cows and their welfare.

“I’m keen to do research which is useful to farmers, so I studied antibiotic resistance to bovine mastitis for my BSc dissertation and presented my findings at the British Conference of Undergraduate Research. Studying for a Master’s degree during Covid along with managing the herd had its challenges, but I’d already learned how to work independently and that most definitely helped.

“I’ve now been offered a new contract with more management responsibility by my employers, so I’m looking forward to being part of the technical upgrade and future planning. Eventually I’d like a more technical role advising farmers. I’ll definitely remain in farming provided I can keep progressing personally – and there are certainly plenty of different avenues available to me.”
