Reaseheath Students’ Union names David Lewis as RAG Charity of the Year

As the new academic year begins, Reaseheath Students’ Union has proudly announced David Lewis as its Raising and Giving (RAG) Charity of the Year.

The charity, which has been transforming lives for over 120 years, provides residential, educational, and medical services for young people and adults with complex needs including autism, epilepsy, and learning difficulties.

Drawn to its inspiring work and strong local presence, the Students’ Union saw an opportunity to build a meaningful partnership that would allow students to engage directly with the charity’s mission. Through volunteering and visits to David Lewis’s Warford site, students will gain first-hand insight into the lives of the people they are supporting.

Kirsty Thornton, Student Life Coordinator, said: “We chose David Lewis because it’s local, does amazing work, and we can actually get involved and see the difference we’re making. We’re super excited to volunteer, run events, and hopefully smash our £20,000 target this year – it’s all about giving back and making an impact together!”

David Lewis made their first official appearance on campus at Reaseheath’s Freshers’ Fair, where representatives hosted a stand, met students, and shared more about their work. The event marked the beginning of the charity’s fundraising journey with Reaseheath and gave students a chance to connect directly with the cause they’ll be supporting throughout the year.

Reaseheath Students’ Union aims to raise £20,000 for David Lewis this year, continuing a tradition of charitable support and community engagement.

Based in Warford near Alderley Edge, David Lewis provides holistic services for individuals with complex needs. Their 200-acre rural site includes 20 residential homes, daytime activities, a school and college, a shop, café, gym, swimming pool, therapy suites, and a farm with rare breed animals. In a typical year, they support around 350 people, helping them lead fulfilling lives with independence, confidence, and self-esteem.

Sarah Johnson, Head of Fundraising and Communications at David Lewis, said: “We are absolutely delighted to have been chosen as the charity partner by Reaseheath Students’ Union. At David Lewis, we are passionate about supporting the incredible people we work with to gain independence and build a positive sense of identity, boosting their self-esteem and unlocking their full potential.

“We help people achieve milestones that they and their families never thought possible. We look forward to working with Reaseheath College and University Centre to transform lives and raise funds that add that extra bit of magic, making David Lewis a truly unique place.”
