Reaseheath champions Green Careers Week

Reaseheath College and University Centre is proud to support Green Careers Week, a national initiative aimed at promoting sustainable career pathways. As environmental challenges intensify globally, the need for skilled professionals in these areas has never been more critical.

With a growing emphasis on sustainability, Reaseheath offers a diverse range of courses designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to excel in green careers.

From T Levels in Agriculture, Construction, Agricultural Engineering and Food Science to Diplomas in Conservation, Engineering, and Motor Vehicle, and extending to degrees in Sustainable Agriculture and Environment and Conservation, Reaseheath’s curriculum is designed to meet the diverse needs of land-based industries.

“The future of our planet relies on the next generation of green professionals,” says Iain Clarke, Assistant Principal – Land Based and Sustainability.

“Our courses not only provide industry-focused technical knowledge but also practical experience, ensuring students are career-ready and equipped to tackle pressing environmental issues.”

Recent figures highlight the urgency of developing a green workforce. According to the UK Government, the green economy is projected to grow by 2.5 million jobs by 2030, emphasising the need for educational institutions to prepare students for these opportunities.

“Sustainability in food production and agriculture is vital for ensuring food security in the face of climate change,” adds Iain.

“By teaching sustainable farming practices, we empower our students to make a tangible difference in their communities.”

The construction industry is also undergoing a green revolution, with a significant shift towards environmentally friendly building practices.

“We are committed to preparing our students for the evolving demands of the green economy,” says Andy Gould, Curriculum Area Manager for Construction.

“As work towards achieving the Supply Chain Sustainability School standards, we aim to integrate essential sustainability practices into our curriculum. This initiative will equip students with the skills necessary to manage sustainable sourcing, logistics, and operations effectively and ensure our students are ready to make a positive impact in their future careers.”

Reaseheath is also dedicated to integrating sustainability into its operations. The college has made significant strides in reducing its carbon footprint through upgrades to heating systems, projected to save approximately 80 tonnes of carbon emissions annually.

Additionally, its Field to Fork project engages students in every stage of food production, encouraging a deeper connection to the land while reducing food miles. With produce grown on campus, many meals served travel fewer than 10 miles, promoting local sourcing and enhancing sustainability.

“We are proud to support Green Careers Week and to inspire students to pursue careers that benefit both the environment and their communities,” adds Iain.

“We’re committed to equipping our students with the skills and knowledge they need to thrive in green careers.

“Our next Course Open Event will take place on November 23rd which will be fantastic opportunity to explore our courses, meet our dedicated faculty, and discover how Reaseheath is leading the way in sustainable education.

“By attending, you’ll gain valuable insights into the various pathways available in careers such as agriculture, construction, and conservation. We can’t wait to show you what we have to offer.”
