Food Science graduate shares why he loved studying at UCR

Are you thinking about studying a Food Science degree at University Centre Reaseheath? Recent graduate Travis shares what he enjoyed about the course and why he would recommend it to anyone with a passion for food science.

Studying at University Centre Reaseheath helped me to discover several key areas within the food industry and made me realise how vast the food industry really is. I particularly enjoyed seeing how connected the industry is, and how it is backed by research and technical skills.

While studying my degree, I loved the modules that contained innovation and practical skills the most; these were product development, sustainability, and current issues within the food industry. These modules were the most appropriate to my desired career in product development, sustainability, and environment, so I found them particularly interesting.

I am currently working as a chef within a popular smokehouse restaurant, but I am also working towards more industry-based work within education, sustainability, and new product development. In the future, I hope to work with major companies and incorporate more sustainable practices into food production. I would also love to create better, more affordable, and more interesting products for consumers to enjoy.

I feel my current position and career prospects would not have been possible without the BRC industry-grade facilities at University Centre Reaseheath, and the technical knowledge and industry background that the lecturers have. UCR is highly supportive, and staff are always there to help you excel with your work and assessments too, which made a big difference to me.

Overall, University Centre Reaseheath is a great place to learn and develop an interest in the food industry while preparing for a great future career.
