There is no shortage of exciting and rewarding things to do here at University Centre Reaseheath. To help ensure you get the most out of every moment you spend studying with us, we have put together some of the top things we recommend you do while you’re a student at UCR!
Join a student society
Joining a student society is a great way to explore your interests and make friends with like-minded people. Whatever you enjoy doing in your free time, whether it’s working with animals, being creative or carrying out conservation projects, we are sure to have a student society to suit you; and if we don’t, you can set one up when you arrive. Just some of our current societies include the Canine, Comms, Wildlife and Conservation, LGBTQ+ and photography societies.
Join a sports club
We would highly recommend joining a sports club to get the most out of your time at UCR. As well as entering competitive leagues, UCR offers recreational sports throughout the year which are free to take part in, highly beneficial for your physical and mental wellbeing, and are great fun too. Just some of our current sports clubs include badminton, climbing, dodgeball, jujitsu and zumba.
Enjoy the nightlife at UCR
There is a lively nightlife at UCR with a range of regular themed socials and live entertainment, as well as classic pub quiz or bingo nights, taking place in our main bar. Our recently refurbished Courtyard Café, which is kitted out with a pool table and wide screen TV, is also available exclusively for UCR students to socialise in day and night, so you will have plenty of opportunities to enjoy the nightlife with your new friends right here on campus.
Explore Nantwich
At UCR, you will only be a short walk from the beautiful town centre of Nantwich, which has a great array of restaurants, cafes, shops, bars and clubs. You will also be close to the newly renovated Nantwich Swimming baths, which has a gym and an aerobic and spinning studio. Whatever you are looking for, you are sure to find it close by in Nantwich!
Enjoy days out in the local area
Outside of Nantwich, there are numerous countryside walks nearby, such as Delamere Forest and Bickerton Hills, while Snowdonia, the Peak District and the Lake District are all approximately only 90 minutes away. Trains from Nantwich can also take you to nearby cities such as Manchester and Liverpool which are great for shopping and nights out, or why not visit Chester for a day at the Races or to explore the impressive historic city walls? Whatever you choose to do, you certainly won’t be stuck for things to do in your free time!
Volunteer or raise money for charity
Supporting local charities is highly rewarding, a great way to meet new friends and a chance to gain excellent experience for your CV too. Every year our Raising and Giving student society fundraise for a local charity in lots of fun and innovative ways; another thing to get involved in while you’re a student here at UCR!
Explore the Reaseheath campus
One of the very special things about University Centre Reaseheath is the amount of specialist facilities we have right across campus, which you are welcome to explore during your time with us. Even if you’re not studying one of our Animal Science degrees for example, we’re sure you would enjoy a visit to our on-site mini zoo where you’ll find a variety of animals, such as bush dogs, lemurs, alpacas, otters and donkeys, to name just a few. We also have a commercial farm home to our dairy herd and sheep flock, a stunning woodland area, an on-site lake and much more.
Enjoy our annual Summer and Winter Balls
At the end of each academic year, we hold a large celebration event for students called our Summer Ball, packed with entertainment, fairground rides, dancing, food, drinks and a chance to reward yourself for all your hard work during the year. We also hold a Winter Ball too just before Christmas, both of which are high on the list of things you might want to experience as a UCR student.
Get to know other UCR students
We have a close-knit community of students here at UCR and plenty of opportunities for you to meet other students right across campus. Many of our students tell us the friends they make at UCR become friends for life! Freshers Week is a great way to start getting to know others who are settling in at the same time as you, but you will meet people throughout your whole time at UCR, from your course and accommodation, the societies and clubs you join, the socials you attend and so much more.
Don’t be afraid to ask questions
Asking questions about anything you are unsure of is a great way to make sure you get the most out of your time at UCR. All the staff here, from our lecturers to our student support teams, want you to succeed in your studies and are on hand to help with anything you need. Whether you want to clarify something during your practicals, you’re not sure where the nearest catering outlet is, or maybe you would like some advice about something, please just ask.
Progress. It’s in our nature.
