Four final year BSc students from UCR attended the British Conference of Undergraduate Research (BCUR) on April 25th-26th, held at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) in the heart of London.
They were among approximately 475 delegates from universities all around the UK and ten other countries. Over 200 student talks and 120 poster displays took place during the two-day conference, covering politics, medicine, economics, gender studies and many more diverse topics.
Grace Gouldin, BSc Veterinary Nursing, gave her talk on “Does anxiety, measured by the Lincoln Canine Anxiety Scale (LCAS) impact Glasgow Composite Measure Pain Scale (CMPS) in canines undergoing ovariohysterectomy?”.
Sam Sheriff, BSc Zoo Management, gave his talk on “How does group composition affect enclosure usage for Western lowland gorillas (Gorilla gorilla gorilla) in different UK collections?”.
Rys Howells, BSc Animal Management (Behaviour and Welfare) presented their poster on “Do happy mealworms make happy meals? Analysis of fat content as an indicator of stress response in Tenebrio molitor in captivity to be used as live feed”.
Sydney Smith, BSc Zoo Management, presented her poster on “An evaluation of the “Intrepid Explorers” educational programme’s ability to improve student knowledge at Knowsley Safari”.
UCR students also attended the welcome dinner, mixing with almost 200 other students and staff from universities around the world, putting into practice the advice shared by the keynote speakers earlier that day on the vital importance of networking to find the perfect career.
