What to pack to move into accommodation at UCR

The new academic year is just around the corner, which means if you are a residential student, it’s almost time to move into your student accommodation at University Centre Reaseheath too.

Whether you have lived in student accommodation before or this is all completely new to you, we have put together this handy packing checklist to help you remember everything you need to have an amazing time and feel at home living at UCR.

It may be tempting to pack every item you own, but there will be shops nearby if you find you are missing something, and don’t forget your room may not be as big as the one you’re used to. Plus, you can always bring more from home when you go back to visit in the holidays or on weekends.

There are some things which you will need in your student accommodation however from the day you arrive which we have listed below. Use this as your checklist while packing to make sure you don’t forget anything!

Bedroom

Your bedroom will come with all the essentials such as a bed, desk, chair and wardrobe, but we are guessing you will want to make it your own, right? So why not add your own flair and make it feel like home with the items listed below.

You will need to bring:

  • Duvet, pillows and bedding. All our beds are singles, except those in our Town House accommodation, which are ¾ size.
  • Clothing and shoes – including warm, smart, comfy, sports and going-out options, along with appropriate footwear.
  • Hangers – to keep your clothes neat and tidy.

Extra things you might want to bring to brighten up your room and keep it organised include a rug, lamp, drinks coasters, photos of friends and family, a rubbish bin, a laundry basket, a small clock, plants, blankets and cushions.

Bathroom

Whether you have opted for your own bathroom, or you will be sharing with your housemates, our bathroom checklist includes a hand towel, a large towel, a bathmat, cleaning supplies, hand soap, shampoo, conditioner, bodywash, a toothbrush and toothpaste, and any other toiletries you need.

Kitchen

If you are joining us as a non-catered residential student, there are certain items you will want to bring for the kitchen so that you can cook meals for yourself (takeaways may get boring after a while!) You might want to buy some of the items below when you get here and share them with your housemates to cut down on costs, but the main things you will need include:

  • Plates, bowls and cutlery
  • Saucepan and frying pan
  • Tea towels and oven glove
  • Washing up supplies e.g. cloth, washing up liquid
  • Mugs, cups and tupperware
  • Chopping board, sieve and baking tray
  • Binbags and tinfoil
  • Cupboard essentials e.g. seasoning, jars and tins of food, pasta

Some of the things you may want to share include a cheese grater, scissors, a bottle opener, a can opener and a student recipe book.

Important extras

Other items you should remember to pack include your accommodation information/ documents, student loan information and bank cards, ID such as driving licence or passport, a clothes airer, washing detergent, your laptop or tablet, chargers, stationery, an extension lead, storage boxes and a doorstop.

We hope this is helpful while you are packing up to move to University Centre Reaseheath, and we can’t wait to welcome you here soon. If you do forget something, don’t worry as there are shops nearby so you can buy the things you are missing when you get here!

Confidence. It’s in our nature.
