“The world is a big place and I think attending UCR will better prepare me for life in the real world.”

International student Nelson plans to expand and progress his bakery business

“Although I’m an accountant I’m passionate about food, which is why I decided to change course and open a bakery business.

“I launched The Pastry Box five years ago and provide freshly baked products such as bread, cakes, biscuits and brownies to the retail trade. It’s been very successful and I already have five part-time staff – but I’m ambitious and want to expand my product range.

“I realised that I needed specific skills to make the most of opportunities within the market, which is why I decided to study at UCR. This uni stood out because the Food Centre is recognised for its industry standard facilities and business partnerships.  Also the course covered subjects and skills training over the wider industry, which I wanted.

“Applying online was straightforward and I did my interview over Skype. Then I had a full introduction and guidance on what to expect. I soon settled in on campus and have made the most of the fun environment.

“University life has been great. I like being part of a diverse student body and I’ve made many new friends. The campus is pleasant, friendly and safe, and studying in UCR’s library is a wonderful experience in itself.”
