Lecturer/Course Manager
Sarah graduated from the University of Leeds with a BSc Biology (Hons) and also from Manchester Metropolitan University with an MSc Animal Behaviour. She worked as a zookeeper in the UK for over 6 years mostly at Knowsley Safari, Liverpool, but also Blackpool Zoo, working with a range of taxa but specialising in large mammals (elephants, tigers, baboons, lions, bush dogs, wolves, giraffe). She also worked abroad, in South Africa with rescued primates and in Costa Rica at a wildlife rehabilitation and release centre caring for permanent resident animals with physical and/or psychological injury as well as those being cared for ahead of release back into the wild. Sarah’s published research focuses on captive animal behavioural responses to transport/group separation, visitor presence and other captive environment variables (altered climate, housing etc).
Sarah has recently become a fellow of Advanced HE (FHEA) and is also a member of the Animal Welfare Research Network.
