Tom Furness

Programme Leader for Agriculture and Equine

Originally from County Durham, Tom graduated from Askham Bryan College, York, with a FdSc in Agriculture with Land Management. After two years of self-employment as a contract herdsman travelling the North of England and Wales, Tom relocated to Lancashire to work as a Herdsman on a Pedigree Holstein herd and studied part-time for a BSc (Hons) in Agricultural Livestock Science at University Centre Myerscough.

Tom has travelled extensively to the USA, Eastern Europe, and Scandinavia on study tours, was an Oxford Farming Conference Scholar in 2018, and was the recipient of a Moredun Foundation Award to study the use of essential oils as a cure for bovine subclinical mastitis.

Tom joined UCR part-time in February 2020, and is currently studying an MSc in Sustainable and Efficient Food Production at Aberystwyth University.
