Would you like to dive into the fascinating world of sharks? University Centre Reaseheath is inviting the public to take a bite out of their thought-provoking new lecture series, launching this December with My Life with Sharks, presented by marine expert Donovan Lewis.
The free-to-attend lecture, both in person and online, will offer a deep dive into the mysterious lives of these often-misunderstood ocean predators. Donovan Lewis, an engaging speaker and accomplished researcher, will strip away the fearsome Hollywood image of sharks and replace it with a celebration of their critical role in ocean ecosystems.
During the lecture, which will take place at the Nantwich-based university centre on Wednesday, December 4th from between 6pm and 7pm, Donovan will explore their biology, behaviour, and surprising secrets — such as why we still don’t know where many shark species breed or migrate.
Alongside uncovering their mysteries, he’ll also sound the alarm about the challenges these apex predators face and what we can do to ensure their survival.
He said: “Sharks are some of the most incredible creatures on the planet — they’ve inspired myths, fear, and fascination for centuries. But beyond the stereotypes lies a story of resilience, diversity, and importance. If we lose sharks, we risk losing the balance of our oceans. My lecture is about uncovering the truth, celebrating these remarkable animals, and exploring what we can do to protect them before it’s too late.”
My Life with Sharks marks the beginning of a diverse series of public lectures running throughout this academic year, hosted by University Centre Reaseheath’s research-active academic staff.
The lectures cover an array of intriguing topics, from sustainability and horticultural excellence to dog training and veterinary tales. Each session is designed to inspire, inform, and connect communities across Cheshire and beyond.
Here’s a preview of the forthcoming line-up:
Whether you’re passionate about marine life, curious about cutting-edge research, or simply looking for a unique evening out, these lectures promise something for everyone.
They are open to all and are free of charge. Participants can join in person at University Centre Reaseheath or from the comfort of home via Teams.
